Arkansas Watch There’s power in national - and state - politics
Posted: November 4, 2009 2:44 p.m.It should not matter to us in Arkansas what happens in New York’s 23rd congressional district special election because the way this country was set up the federal government was designed to fend off foreign threats, resolve disputes between the states, and pretty much leave everything else to the states so that local people could manage their own affairs.

Library Notes: Wonderful books for sale at the library
Posted: October 13, 2009 6 a.m.Well, she has finally done it; my beautiful daughter Amy married her sweetheart Preston Stokes at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The wedding was wonderful and the reception was the best time ever! We danced and played and ate the greatest food and best cake. I wish I could offer all of you some of that cake. I served a small amount of the leftover cake to my family on Sunday (I saved and froze most of it and then proceeded to hide it from them so that I didn’t have to share!) The food was great, but there was meat and I would rather have dessert. They are at a resort on the west coast of Mexico now and I won’t see them until Sunday. Preston had better be bringing me some great presents; since I gave him the best one first!

Lynch Pen: With age, comes perspective and boldness
Posted: October 7, 2009 4:37 p.m.It is my belief that we must formulate in our own mind what our own value system is based upon and then take a stand to defend it. Whether this be in the realm or our spiritual life or in the world of politics, until we are firmly committed to what we believe, we cannot establish our own sense of priorities much less critique those political ideals that we claim to support.
